As a Data Scientist at FedEx Dataworks, you will take ownership and responsibility over major data science initiatives, advancing our broad capabilities to use and deploy cutting-edge data science and machine learning tools and methods. You will lead modeling and development to support operations initiatives, strategic programs, and new products/solutions, leveraging advanced descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive, and ensemble modeling, as well as complex mathematical modeling and tool development. Key Responsibilities • Lead the creation and implementation of solutions from concept to production, using current and emerging technologies to evaluate trends and develop actionable insights and recommendations. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, business, software engineers, and data engineers, to drive data science innovation within Dataworks. • Contribute to the creation and adherence of technical standards for data science and machine learning, including the design and construction of reusable data assets. • Work with large data sets to solve difficult analytical problems, applying advanced methods and techniques. • Mentor junior data scientists to support the continued training and up-skilling of the Data Science team. • Lead the invention of new approaches and algorithms for tackling data-intensive problems and pioneer R&D efforts to rapidly understand and assimilate state-of-the-art methods. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: • A strong technical background in computer science, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, or other quantitative and computational sciences. • A compelling track record of Data Science/Engineer expertise, designing and deploying large-scale technical solutions that deliver tangible, ongoing value. • Direct experience building and deploying robust, complex production systems through cloud technologies that implement modern, data scientific methods at scale. • Ability to context-switch, provide support to dispersed teams, and make rapid, pragmatic decisions to improve performance, accelerate progress, or magnify impact. • Solid theoretical grounding in the mathematical core of major ideas in data science and expert-level understanding of a class of modeling or analytical techniques. Preferred Qualifications Preferred candidates will have: • Experience working with agile and DevOps practices for project and software management, including CI/CD, process improvement, and quality management. • Demonstrated expertise in working with common languages and tools, such as SKLearn, XGBoost, Tensorflow, Pytorch, MLlib, Python, Scala, R, C++, Java, MLFlow, Databricks, Spark, Kafka, Hive, Hadoop, and CPLEX. • A related advanced degree, such as a Master's or Ph.D. in computer science, operations research, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
