This engagement is purely advisory in nature and focused on enterprise architecture, system design, and governance, rather than hands-on Epic build or configuration. The consultant will serve as a trusted advisor to executive, operational, and IT leadership, helping architect scalable, future-state solutions across Cadence, Referrals, Access workflows, and Decision Trees that align with organizational strategy, growth objectives, and patient access goals. This role is ideal for a senior Epic consultant who has previously designed access models for complex health systems, understands upstream and downstream impacts of access decisions, and can translate business objectives into sustainable Epic architectures. Key Responsibilities Strategic Architecture & Design • Lead future-state architecture design for Epic Access domains including: • Cadence scheduling models • Referral intake and management workflows • Access and patient navigation strategies • Decision Tree frameworks for call centers and digital access • Define enterprise access standards, design principles, and governance models. • Evaluate existing Epic configurations and workflows, identifying gaps, risks, and optimization opportunities. • Design scalable access models to support: • Multi-specialty environments • Centralized and decentralized scheduling • Growth, expansion, and digital front door initiatives Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement • Act as a strategic advisor to executive sponsors, access leadership, operational leaders, and IT stakeholders. • Facilitate design sessions, working groups, and executive-level discussions to align strategy and system design. • Translate complex Epic capabilities into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders. • Provide guidance on best practices, industry trends, and Epic-recommended patterns. Decision Trees & Workflow Strategy • Architect decision tree strategies that support: • Call center efficiency • Consistent patient experiences • Accurate routing and scheduling outcomes • Define standards for decision tree maintenance, governance, and long-term sustainability. • Ensure alignment between decision trees, scheduling logic, and referral workflows. Documentation & Roadmapping • Produce high-quality deliverables including: • Current-state and future-state architecture diagrams • Design principles and standards documentation • Strategic roadmaps and phased implementation recommendations • Partner with internal build teams or system integrators by providing clear architectural direction, guardrails, and design intent. Certification Requirements • Epic Cadence Certification (required) • Epic Referrals or Decision Trees Certification (strongly preferred) Why This Role This is a unique opportunity to influence high-impact, system-wide access strategy without hands-on build responsibilities. The consultant will play a pivotal role in shaping how patients access care, how access teams operate, and how Epic supports long-term organizational goals—while remaining fully remote. RequirementsRequired Qualifications • Extensive experience as an Epic Cadence / Access / Referrals consultant in large or complex health systems. • Proven background in architecture, system design, and strategic advisory roles (not just build). • Deep understanding of: • Epic Cadence scheduling frameworks • Referral workflows and intake models • Access center operations • Epic Decision Trees and their role in access strategy • Demonstrated ability to design enterprise-level, scalable Epic solutions. • Strong executive presence with the ability to advise senior leadership. • Excellent facilitation, communication, and documentation skills. • Experience guiding organizations through access transformation or optimization initiatives.
